I dress like a total slob.
Here are my usual excuses:
1. I work with engineers (and other people who still wear Zoobas on the weekends)
2. I'm going to the gym eventually. (translation: pit stains are fine).
3. When I loose weight, I'll find something that fits.
4. Hey, I'm already married (ha ha, Travis, I'm letting myself go, just for you).
So, in my quest to articulate my goals, my career, and my passions...I've come to admit my image might need a gentle nudge in the "re-do" direction. Because this is "Spot On Your Pants", confessing I knowingly owned (and wore) an entire trash bag full of shirts, pants, and shorts with stains on them is in theme with this blog.
How do I know this? Because my friend Heather (who owns Mother Venture/Networking Venture and a new image/power of presence company, Lavish) came over for the fashion intervention. After taking lots of measurements involving my crotch (okay, just three) and assessing my wardrobe against colors that actually look good on a strawberry blonde, we made three piles (pitch, hem, and keep--with "pitch" taking first prize). I also identified Gwen Stefani as my wardrobe heroine (!).
She had a great idea...to basically downgrade (or demote) your clothing, so you are going "up" on the image totem pole. Example: After the t-shirts were gone, I could choose from form-fitting solid shirts and/or my few items of name-brand athletic wear when going to the gym. Not that "Love is for Losers" didn't make a great statement in the locker room! Now my formal is my casual, and so on...
I will now share with you a not-so-flattering picture of myself standing in the foreground of a very sparse, very efficient (itemized and documented) closet. Is that a look of constipation or angst? I can't decide (comment if you want me to insert a "Mr Yuk" in place of my head)...
You can see me here in my natural habitat...free t-shirt (thanks Izze) and some solid, boring pair of gray pants (you can't see I have duct-taped a ripped him and used brown embroidery thread to reinforce a button at a 23 degree angle).
Anyway, Heather and I have a hot date to shop next week (maybe this is where the crotch measurements come in handy). Stay tuned for an image transformation. I'm pretty pumped. No Doubt, here I come!

Fine! I'll comment on my own blog!I wore a dress tonight and the kids got all squirrely. Marie said I looked like Hannah Montana (I think this is probably cool) and Calvin asked if I was going somewhere to shake my booty (either pirate or porn - I can't decide - either way, disturbing)?

I'm confused on where all those free BlogHer t-shirts are going :)
Julie, you are the cutest, no matter what you wear.
Hey... I have a secret. I suck at shopping and finding clothes that look good. So I use a personal shopper at Macy's. And before you get all potentially judgmental on me, you should know it's a free service and it's awesome. They do all the work, ahead of time and you just show up and try on clothes in a big beautiful dressing room. Then they run around and get more things... and then you end up finding 2x as many cool awesome things that look good on you and everyone will think you are a snazzy dresser. :)
I look forward to seeing what you and Heather come home with on your shopping adventure!
I had so much fun doing the closet cleanout with you! Of course, wine makes absolutely everything fun. I put your blog on the front page of my website: www.LavishLbri.com! Thanks for the opportunity. I look forward to shopping!
Oh so exciting! Like your own What Not to Wear. Please do post some "after" pictures
I am a fashion disaster and get crazy green whenever any of my peers look great. I want to spit on them; just kidding. My wardrobe dates back to the eighties where I think maybe I felt the best. Very, very sad.... I definately need a re-do, do-over or just throw myself in the toss pile. Ha
Julie - what are the shopping results?? I want to know what fabulous things Heather helped you find. I'm not a Mom-of-three, but I've gone thru that wardrobe thing too. I live at home in PJ's. Ones that I would NOT answer the door wearing. I realized that was a sign that I needed some cute "athletic" style clothing that is as comfy as the free Tshirts and yet not embarassing to be seen if when the neighbors stop by! Also, moving to the fabulous Twin Cities from Iowa, meant a wardrobe overhaul - a girl's gotta look sharp to promote herself! ;) love ya! Robyn
